First Moolah for Twitter, Courtesy Microsoft

Twitter has entered into an online advertising with Microsoft. This is the popular microblogging site's first payable venture since its inception. Exact details of the deals are not yet disclosed.

The deal centers around a new site called '' which is being developed by Federated Media and will be supported by Twitter. ExecTweets will allow users to get 'tweets' or updates from top executives like Nigel Dessau CMO of AMD, Padmasree Warrior, CTO of Cisco, etc. In a true twitter style, the updates may be completely professional or as trivial as their thoughts on who is going to win the World Cup!

In a company blog, Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter had said, "Twitter is contacted regularly by brands interested in sponsoring innovative experiences based on topics of interest. However, our focused commitment to Twitter itself means we don't have much time or resources to build these interesting topical experiences."

Questions have been raised about whether Twitter could ever have a self-sustaining revenue model. In its official site itself, the company said 'we spend more than we earn.'

This deal with Microsoft be its first step towards a payable business model.
